Inducements of China’s Political Transformation
Chen Kuide
(Abstract)
This paper focuses on the systematic changes in China, with a comparative study of the processes that ended martial law in Taiwan (and the transformation that took place in the Soviet Union & Eastern Europe). It discusses the internal and external mechanisms and inducements of, and possible approaches to, China’s transformation, especially with regard to the historic function of a dictator’s evaluation of his interests at the moment of truth. It also studies the conditions necessary to arrive at the critical point of institutional transformation, and analyzes international pressures, domestic tactics employed by interest groups, and strategies carried out by the central administration and local governments as inductive roles in political transformation.
